In April 2020 Serena Mah received a phone call to help launch a national network to provide support to Asian communities suffering from rising anti-Asian racism and violence. Within 10 days, the network was mobilized and commanded national media headlines. The network also launched an online reporting tool to gather data on racism and provide mental health support for targets of racism.
In just a year, ACT2endracism has led the way with educational webinars and collaboration with over 50 communities, thousands of Canadians, and government at all levels.

It’s always with great pleasure when a personal journey and professional journey can coincide.
Serena Mah first met Amarjeet Sohi as a reporter at city hall and followed his story as a Member of Parliament and eventually worked with him on his successful bid as the first South Asian Mayor of Edmonton. Her role as a video producer entailed two highly viewed videos which helped share his story as a person who came to Canada with a hard work ethic and a dream.
Serena helped launch his campaign as the host of his virtual announcement. She worked closely with the new mayor with speech delivery and performance helping him and his team shape his message. It’s with great honour to work with amazing leaders with a focus on social justice.
The Serena Mah Consulting Team worked with the Asian Heritage Foundation to plan and lead a month of events celebrating Asian Heritage. In addition to coordinating community events , social media management and relaunching the AHF website and brand, Serena Mah created and hosted the virtual kickoff event which was seen by thousands of Canadians.
It was a showcase of rich culture but also a deep discussion of legislative racism and the roots of anti-Asian sentiment. And for Serena Mah personally, it was an honour to work with prominent Asian Canadians such as Teresa Woo-Paw and Cesar Cala, who have charted the way for Asian Canadians for decades. As a first generation Canadian, Serena shared these thoughts at the finale of Asian Heritage Month.

This independent task force was appointed by Edmonton’s city council. The group was made up of community members with diverse and lived experience with racism and marginalization. The Task Force mandate was to look into solutions on how to improve the safety ecosystem.
Serena Mah Consulting worked with the Task Force and listened and learned, eventually helping shape the recommendations into a report and video outlining problems and solutions to policing. 13 out 14 solutions were accepted. The 14th controversial recommendation of a funding freeze will be debated more before a final decision is made.

"After 25 years with Legal Aid, I lost my job. Set adrift, I wanted to continue doing what I love best, helping people. I needed to maintain financial sustainability. Serena was my compass and anchor. She and her team shared my story and helped kickstart a fundraising campaign. Serena went well beyond and brought in a visual and social media strategy that lifted my profile and harnessed a sustainable community funding stream. Today I am my own employer, and haven’t missed a beat advocating and fighting for our most vulnerable. Thank you Serena, without your help, I wouldn’t have made it!"
