Action! Chinese Canadians Together
As a first-generation Canadian, Serena Mah is thrilled to partner with The Action, Chinese Canadians Together (ACCT) Foundation to build the capacity of Chinese-Canadian leaders.
By offering marketing and communication support, Serena Mah is able to help with media outreach and build relationships with Chinese communities and help share stories that otherwise may not hit mainstream channels. It’s always with great pleasure when a personal journey and professional journey can coincide.
Amarjeet Sohi for Mayor
Serena Mah first met Amarjeet Sohi as a reporter at city hall and followed his story as a Member of Parliament and eventually worked with him on his successful bid as the first South Asian Mayor of Edmonton. Her role as a video producer entailed two highly viewed videos which helped share his story as a person who came to Canada with a hard work ethic and a dream.
Serena helped launch his campaign as the host of his virtual announcement. She worked closely with the new mayor with speech delivery and performance helping him and his team shape his message. It’s with great honour to work with amazing leaders with a focus on social justice.
Asian Heritage Month 2021
The Serena Mah Consulting Team worked with the Asian Heritage Foundation to plan and lead a month of events celebrating Asian Heritage. In addition to coordinating community events , social media management and relaunching the AHF website and brand, Serena Mah created and hosted the virtual kickoff event which was seen by thousands of Canadians.
It was a showcase of rich culture but also a deep discussion of legislative racism and the roots of anti-Asian sentiment. And for Serena Mah personally, it was an honour to work with prominent Asian Canadians such as Teresa Woo-Paw and Cesar Cala, who have charted the way for Asian Canadians for decades. As a first generation Canadian, Serena shared these thoughts at the finale of Asian Heritage Month.
Atlas Biotechnologies Inc
Atlas Growers came onto the scene in Alberta with a major story to share. Serena Mah Consulting helped share that story of a commitment to quality and research through its partnership with household name horticulturalist, Jim Hole, through videography, press events, and social media.
Serena’s partnership continues today with regular press updates with the Atlas Growers, which now has expanded internationally and is now linked with major partners such as Harvard University and Shopper’s Drug Mart.
Canadian Mental Health Association
Community Safety & Well-Being Task Force
This independent task force was appointed by Edmonton’s city council. The group was made up of community members with diverse and lived experience with racism and marginalization. The Task Force mandate was to look into solutions on how to improve the safety ecosystem.
Serena Mah Consulting worked with the Task Force and listened and learned, eventually helping shape the recommendations into a report and video outlining problems and solutions to policing. 13 out 14 solutions were accepted. The 14th controversial recommendation of a funding freeze will be debated more before a final decision is made.
Coalition for Justice and Human Rights
Edmonton Japanese Community Association
John Humphrey Centre for Peace & Human Rights
The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights in Edmonton leads the way in education, but there is a misconception it offers services. That’s because Covid-19 uncovered gaps in services leaving thousands of people without. JHC stepped in and continues to support the community.
Serena Mah continues to work with JHC crafting a communication strategy to focus its story, working closely with the board and executive director to chart a new direction to tell its story, expand its network and create sustainable funding.
Mikisew Cree First Nation
Serena Mah has the distinct pleasure of working with the First Nation where she grew up. She began media relations for the First Nation when its appeal for the duty to consult hit the Supreme Court in 2018. Since then, Serena has continued to provide media advice and now is working closely with Chief Peter Powder and council as they chart their strategic direction into the future. Her team is excited to work on video production and a website refresh along with creating content for social media and the website. It’s a great honour to share the stories of the amazing Mikisew on a land she grew up on.
